About Us
We Are CMA
Located in the 8th District and represented by School Board Member Travis Wright and Region 3, Career Magnet Academy was established in 2014 and partners with Pellissippi State Community College to provide our students the opportunity to make significant progress towards an associate degree while they are still in high school. Because no KCS students are zoned for CMA, every family who wishes to attend the school must fill out a transfer application.
Career Magnet Academy’s mission is that “Every Student Graduate with a Diploma Plus”, This means that CMA allows students to earn college credit by offering Dual Enrollment (DE) classes--college courses for which a high school student is enrolled simultaneously at a postsecondary institution. Successful completion of the course results in both high school and college credits.
Each year, CMA scholars manage to graduate high school with their full associate's degree. Since a full associate’s degree is not for everyone, some students pursue one of the Associate of Applied Science degrees offered by Pellissippi State Community College or enlist in the military. In addition, CMA scholars are provided with industry experiences and internships in their chosen field of study.
Career Magnet Academy’s student population consists of individuals from all areas across the Knox County School District. Our demographics include students from a variety of backgrounds and skill levels, including public, private, and home-schooled students. Ideally, students would come prepared for the rigors of an early college experience, however, this is not always the case. At CMA, we have implemented grade-level-specific strategies to build scholars’ ability to succeed in high school and college courses.
